Reparations Online Seminars

Join Sandy Spring Friends Meeting’s Reparations Working Group for a series of online seminars.

January 28 & February 4. 7:00-8:15 PM

Tutorials to learn more about reparations from Marcy Seitel, co-clerk of BYM Reparations Action Working Group. Marcy is a gifted and inspiring teacher! Each tutorial will have a Q & A period.

After these two reparations tutorials, we will begin to work with the following queries:

  • What are we as the Sandy Spring meeting community to acknowledge about our historical relationship with chattel slavery and with indigenous peoples?

  • What formal and public acknowledgment are we to make?

Acknowledgment is part of the process of reparations.

February 9, 16, and 23. 7:00-8:00 PM

Coleman Bazelon, Tom Farquhar, and Pat Powers will each lead a session. Coleman will review his research on financial reparations for chattel slavery. Tom and Pat will each summarize their knowledge about Sandy Spring Quaker relationships with chattel slavery and with indigenous peoples. Each will give their responses to the queries and lead our prayerful conversation about them.
