Spring Open House

Our Spring Open House is a special invitation to the children and families of Sandy Spring Friends School to join us for a day of worship, fellowship, food, and learning. Come see how 21st Century Quakers gather together in community!

On Sunday, April 19, we invite you to join any or all of our First Day morning activities:

  • 9:00 AM Meeting for Worship in the Meeting House

    • Our early Meeting for Worship is generally smaller and quieter than our 11 AM meeting. Friends of all ages are welcome to settle into silence together. Children may wish to read or play quietly in the children’s corner in the southwest corner of the Meeting House.

  • 10:00 AM Bible Study in Community House room 204

    • Today, our Bible study group will be reading Acts 4:1-31. Friend Erik Hanson will lead an open discussion on the material. No preparation is required; Bibles are on hand for Friends to borrow.

  • 11:00 AM Meeting for Worship in the Meeting House

    • Our 11 AM Meeting for Worship is usually larger with more spoken messages from worshipers. Friends of all ages are welcome to settle into silence together. Children may wish to read or play quietly in the children’s corner in the southwest corner of the Meeting House. Most children will follow their Friendly Adult Mentors to the Community House after 15 minutes; parents are always welcome to (1) join their children for First Day School in the Community House; (2) keep their children in the Meeting House with them for the remainder of Meeting for Worship; or (3) remain in worship while their children attend First Day School. All volunteers and staff have been background checked and vetted by our Religious Education Committee. Please let us know if your child has allergies or any other special needs.

  • Childcare in the Nursery starting at 10:30 AM

    • Pre-K children can be dropped off in the nursery/playroom starting at 10:30 AM. Our childcare provider, Lily, will welcome you. Children can be picked up in the Lyceum at 12:00 PM during simple meal. Please let Lily know if your child has allergies or any other special needs.

  • 11:00 AM Children Grades K-12

    • All young Friends are invited to gather in the Meeting House at 11:00 AM for the first 15 minutes of Meeting for Worship with their parents. Then they will follow their Friendly Adult Mentors (Evangeline, Nathan, and Margo) to the Community House for a special Earth Day celebration!

  • 12:00 PM Simple Lunch in the Lyceum

    • All are welcome to our simple potluck lunch after Meeting for Worship. There is always plenty of food to go around!

  • 12:30 PM Beekeeping Symposium brought to us by Friends in Unity with Nature Committee

    • During simple lunch, Bonnie Zimmer and Kathleen Keller from Friends House will teach us about the ins and outs of beekeeping! Friends who wish to socialize during simple lunch are asked to do so outside of the Lyceum (all classrooms are available). For younger children, supervised outdoor games will be available on the School House lawn on the north side of the Community House.
