Black History Month Talk

The First Symposium on Reparations Under the Law in 2021 (organized by the American Society of International Law and the University of the West Indies) established the illegality of transatlantic chattel slavery under international law at the time it was perpetrated. In preparation for the Second Symposium (February 2023), the Society asked the Brattle Group, which provides consulting services and expert testimony in economics, finance, and regulation, to estimate the amount of these damages.

On Saturday, February 18 at 6:00pm in the Lyceum, Coleman Bazelon, principal at Brattle and member of Sandy Spring Friends Meeting, will present the results of that research. A discussion of reparations will follow.

We will begin with a potluck dinner at 6:00pm. Please feel free to bring a dish to share. Coleman’s talk will begin at 7:00pm. If you’d like to join the talk online via Zoom, use our regular Meeting for Worship link.
