Special Meeting for Worship for the Inauguration, Jan. 19

We at Sandy Spring Meeting invite everyone — Quakers and non-Quakers, other faith traditions and groups who may feel particularly anxious about this political transition — to join us for a special meeting for worship on Thursday, Jan. 19th, 7:30 p.m., in the Sandy Spring (brick) Meeting House. This “called” meeting for worship is to hold in the Light all those expected to convene in Washington, D.C. for the Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 20th.

The 2016 Presidential Election has unmasked an extraordinary divisiveness in the country. It has triggered fear, anxiety, and anger among many citizens, including Friends. The tradition of having a peaceful transition of government in the United States is put at risk.

As people from around the country come to our area — whether to celebrate or to protest — we feel a special responsibility to offer a space and opportunity for Friends, and our friends from other faith traditions, to gather in waiting worship to hold ALL in the Light and raise our prayers for peace.

We hope you will plan to join us!
